Energy Is Being Reinvented. Your Brand Should Be Too.

The energy industry is at an inflection point unlike anything it has seen in a generation. The transition from fossil fuels to renewables, the explosion of AI-driven energy demand, the emergence of entirely new categories — carbon markets, green hydrogen, distributed generation — and the relentless pressure from investors, regulators, and customers to get the story right. In this environment, brand has never mattered more.

The energy companies that win the next decade won’t just be the ones with the best technology or the deepest capital. They’ll be the ones that can clearly articulate what they stand for, why it matters, and why the market should believe them — in a sector where credibility is everything and greenwashing has made buyers deeply skeptical of hollow claims.

WANT has been building energy brands for over 25 years — for traditional energy companies navigating the transition, clean energy startups establishing credibility, and newly formed entities in emerging categories like carbon markets and renewable fuels.

What's Changing in Energy

01

A new energy economy is emerging — and it needs a new kind of brand.

Renewable capacity surpassed fossil fuel additions for the first time in 2025, and entirely new categories are forming alongside it: carbon markets, green hydrogen, renewable natural gas. Buyers in these categories don’t yet have a frame of reference — which means credibility can’t come from marketing. It has to come from a specific, provable claim. When Fortistar and Trustar merged to form Opal Fuels, WANT built the brand that amplified a brand-new category and made a brand-new company credible.

02

AI is rewriting who the energy customer is.

Data centers already consume 4% of U.S. electricity, headed toward 9% by 2030. That demand is pulling energy companies into entirely new sales conversations — hyperscalers instead of utilities, national buyers instead of regional ones. The brand has to work for both audiences at once, without losing the trust either one expects.

03

Greenwashing fatigue has raised the bar.

Years of vague sustainability claims have made energy buyers sharp, skeptical readers of brand language. Generic positioning doesn’t move anyone anymore. The brands that earn trust are the ones that can make a specific claim and prove it — that requires a brand that tells a powerful and true story.

Arq

Energy — Brand Creation, Brand Naming, Brand Strategy, Brand Identity

When Advanced Emission Solutions acquired Arq Limited, the merger created North America’s first fully vertically integrated activated carbon provider — but two legacies now needed one brand, bold enough to match the environmental technology company they’d become.

WANT developed Arq, a name and identity built around “Activate The Future,” pairing a cobalt-blue mark symbolizing air, water, and soil with a unified website and brand system. The rebrand launched with a Nasdaq bell-ringing and gave the combined company a single, compelling story to lead its industry into a cleaner future.
