Building Healthcare Brands That People Believe In

Healthcare is one of the most complex industries in the world to build a brand in. The science is hard. The regulatory environment is unforgiving. The audiences — patients, physicians, payers, and executives — each speak a different language and make decisions for different reasons. And the stakes of getting it wrong are higher than in almost any other sector.

WANT has been building healthcare, pharmaceutical, and life sciences brands for over 25 years — from pharmaceutical companies and medtech manufacturers to digital health startups and healthcare services organizations. We understand the science well enough to translate it, the compliance environment well enough to navigate it, and the human dimension well enough to make it matter.

What's Changing in Healthcare Branding

01

Trust is now the primary brand asset — and it's harder to earn than ever.

Only 34% of consumers feel “cared for” by the healthcare system — a striking number given how much healthcare organizations invest in patient-centric messaging. The gap between what healthcare brands say and what patients actually experience has never been more visible. In this environment, the brands that win aren’t the ones with the most polished campaigns. They’re the ones whose positioning is grounded in something real — a genuine capability, a distinct approach, a commitment the organization can actually deliver on.

02

The line between healthcare and technology is disappearing.

The pharmaceutical industry is facing accelerating AI adoption, advanced biologics expansion, and regulatory shifts reshaping global drug pipelines — and every healthcare company is now a technology company in some form. Digital health platforms, AI-powered diagnostics, medtech software — the category lines are dissolving. That creates a specific branding challenge: how do you communicate technical sophistication without losing the human credibility that healthcare buyers require? It’s the tension at the heart of almost every healthcare brand engagement we take on.

03

M&A and spinoffs are reshaping the healthcare landscape.

Healthcare M&A has been relentless, creating a constant stream of newly formed entities that need brands of their own. Spinoffs, carve-outs, portfolio companies emerging from private equity investment — each one faces the same challenge: establishing credibility quickly in a market where trust takes years to build. Regulatory complexity is increasing alongside this consolidation, with compliance requirements expanding to address digital transformation and AI adoption — meaning new healthcare brands have to navigate both the brand-building challenge and the compliance environment simultaneously.

Aegis Ventures Portfolio

Healthcare & Life Sciences — Brand Creation, Brand Naming, Brand Strategy, Brand Identity

Aegis Ventures partnered with Northwell Health to build healthcare companies at the intersection of technology and human care. When they came to WANT, four portfolio companies were preparing to launch simultaneously — Optain, Ascertain, Caire, and Upliv — each requiring its own name, positioning, and identity. Each needed to feel distinct. Each needed to build trust in a regulated environment. And all four needed to reflect the Aegis belief that technology should make healthcare more human, not less.

WANT developed the brand strategy, naming, and identity for each company — building four distinct brands with a coherent logic across the portfolio. The work required moving fast, navigating clinical sensitivities, and finding the human truth inside each company’s technical capability.
